New Years Eve

On New Year’s Eve, our Members enjoyed a live concert from Bassology, a swinging jazz band!! It was the perfect way to ring in the new year! This year, we hosted a virtual New Years’ Eve! Each of our Members received a bag with prosecco, chocolates, and lots of New Years’ Eve decorations.

At 7 pm on New Year’s Eve, our network tv channel played a special program for our Members to enjoy and to have their very own New Year’s Eve party in their apartment. It included a wellness program, party in a box, escape room, and more! Cheers to making it a great year in 2021!

Winter Explorers

We recently had a beautiful winter day for an afternoon hike with the Evergreen Explorers! We enjoyed the fresh air and walk along the scenic Shoreline Greenway Trail in Hammonasset! Check out these fun photos of our outing!

Vaccine

Our Members and staff were blessed to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination earlier this month. Safety is the #1 priority in our community, and this is the first step in ensuring that our Members are protected against this virus.

Aquasize

Who is ready for Aquasize?! Aquasize is a fun class that works out your entire body with exercises like water jogging, stretching, and resistance movements! Having access to a heated pool for exercise during these New England winters is a MUST and we’re proud to have one for all of our Members to use!

Bob Kolb Quartet

On January 11th, we welcomed back the Bob Kolb Quartet who last performed for us outside in June.We enjoyed a program of jazz standards and songs from movies performed by the Quartet. They weaved their way through a delightful series of songs. Listened to Bob Kolb’s full-bodied alto and tenor saxophone expressions. Other long-time members of the Quartet include David Childs on piano and Steve Roane on bass. Tom Melito is welcomed on drums for this performance. Individually they have played for or with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nelson Riddle, Lionel Hampton, Diane Schurr, and the list goes on.

Pickleball

Last week, our pickleball game had so much energy and fun at the Guilford Racquet & Swim Club We were really on our game and continue to get better with our skills.

Aquarium

On Monday we went to the Mystic Aquarium! his is one of the neatest marine aquariums as it is one of only two US facilities holding Stellar sea lions, and it has the only beluga whales in New England! Our Members enjoyed meeting Mystic’s famous belugas and exploring the indoor/outdoor exhibits. We had a private stingray encounter where residents were able to feed and pet the stingrays. The string rays painted a canvas as a part of their daily enrichment program which we got to take home with us. It was a day of fun and learning about how we can care for our ocean and planet through conservation, education, and research!

The Magic Flute and Illusionist

Our Social Director, Irene does a FAN-TAS-TIC job of bringing in entertainment for our Members. We recently welcomed Illusionist, Jeff Horton to Evergreen Woods for a fun performance of magic and illusions!

On Friday we hosted Member Tom Lewy for two lectures on ‘The Magic Flute’. The Magic Flute is an opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. He did an incredible job speaking about this unique musical performance.

Ensemble 123

We’re so thankful that Ensemble 132 created a custom classical concert thanks to the Concert Board at Evergreen Woods!

Having live music is one of our favorite forms of entertainment and for them to take the time to create this for us meant our Members. For all of our Members to enjoy, we hosted three viewings of this concert.

Snow Day

“Snow Day” takes on a whole new meaning at Evergreen Woods. Yesterday as the snow fell blanketing our area – we were just gettin started for a day of fun! Throughout the day, we had activities, classes, salon appointments, music, and more happening in all corners of our little slice of paradise! Our Members enjoyed collaborating on giant crossword puzzles, facing off in Mah Jong, staying fit during wellness classes in our heated pool, and enjoyed a special performance from Yale School of Music student, Salome Jordania. The snow won’t stop our Members from enjoying a day of their retirement at Evergreen Woods!
