Living the Weller Life

– March 2021 –

Beach Walk

We were happy, happy, happy to get some sunshine after a few weeks of chilly temperatures! On Friday our Members enjoyed a beautiful walk on the boardwalk and beach at Hammonasset State Park to end the week!

St. Patrick’s Day

Irish eyes were smiling at Evergreen Woods this afternoon! Healthy shamrock shakes with corned beef egg rolls were on tap and enjoyed by everyone. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Aquarium

We’ve been loving our trips to the Mystic Aquarium! Our Members have gone in small groups for the past month to view all of the incredible sea life that calls Mystic ‘home’. Our favorite part of each trip is the one-on-one time with the stingrays – who are truly remarkable! Did you know that stingrays feed on crustaceans, small fish, snails, clams, shrimp, and other small creatures?

Jazz Band

We love the Bob Kolb Jazz Band! Evergreen Woods welcomed them back for a performance in our Auditorium and we had a packed house (safely!)! They are one of our favorite performers and having their music fill our community again is such a wonderful feeling for all of our Members and staff!

Pickleball

Our Members are DEDICATED to getting their pickleball practice in! Yesterday we practiced outside, the wind made it a lot of laughs for our crew, but it was nice to get outside and be active! #TheWellerLife

Music in the Courtyard

Did you know? In Gaelic, ‘bagpipe’ translates into P’iob mho’r, literally meaning ‘big pipe! Well, we welcomed those ‘big pipes’ out to Evergreen Woods for a performance this week! Member hung out in our courtyard and enjoyed the music as a post St. Patrick’s Day treat!

Pool

“She is such an inspiration to me!” – Maureen T., Evergreen Woods Wellness Director Working one-on-one with our Members is SO rewarding! We love learning about their needs and how wellness training can assist them in their daily lives. On Wednesday, Mrs. A. worked with our Wellness Director, Maureen at the pool where they focused on balance and core strength.

3-Mile Hike

On Friday the Evergreen Woods Explorers took on a 3-mile hike at Chatfield Hollow State Park! Now that the snow has subsided, we’ve enjoyed getting out and breathing the fresh air that all of these incredible parks and trails have to offer!

Dr. Mark Shanker

Last week we hosted our first discussion with Dr. Mark Shanker from Yale University! This series is called ‘Murder by the Book Mystery Discussion Series’. Our attendees read a ‘Study in Scarlet’ by Arthur Doyle for part one. Dr. Shanker let them in a group discussion about the book which was incredible! We can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of this series!
