Top 5 Social Events of 2020

1. Opera Day

On February 27th, our Members participated in our Signature Experience – “A Day at the Opera” with a beautiful day of food, fitness and fun! The day began with a MET Opera Costume Display where Members were able to view a variety of pieces that were worn during the recent MET Opera in New York City. At 10am, our wellness participants attended class entitled ‘Opera Fit’ where they had a total body warm up as an actor would to take the spotlight on stage! Members got craft during our mask making class. Masks are a great way not only to tell a story but to study the history of an opera. Our residents love welcoming guest speakers so Member, Tom Lewy gave a lecture in the auditorium around 2:30 pm on the topic, Handel’s Agrippina. It was a very interesting lecture about this opera and history of Handel himself. To prepare ourselves for a fun evening, we got the red carpet treatment with live music in the ballroom and happy hour with wine, champagne, and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner was masterfully crafted by our Executive Chef and Dining Services Team for a ‘Grand Tier Experience’. The dining room transported us to Lincoln Center with a contemporary American special menu. The menu consisted of Crab Bisque and Chicken Consomme to start. This was followed by a Fresh Spring Salad with Pea Shoots, Fresh Blueberries with Almonds, and Lemon Vinaigrette. Dinner entrees included choice of Grilled Lamb Chops over a Sweet Potato Puree or Lobster and Shrimp Ravioli Florentine with Wine Sauce, Topped with 3 Sautéed Shrimp. For dessert, our diners enjoyed Flourless Chocolate Cake with Fresh Raspberries! Yum! To close out this wonderful day, we welcomed Scottish award-winning soprano, Lauren McQuistin. Lauren’s repertoire includes The Magic Flute, Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder, Messiah, Don Giovanni and Eugene Oregon.

In August, our Members attended a beautiful afternoon tea party! While not as mad as Alice’s tea party, we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon in the Reis Room! Our Members dressed for the occasion and wore summertime tea attire while dining on a menu full of goodies! The menu included an assortment of mini quiche, finger food sandwiches, salads, chocolate tulip shells filled with mousse and strawberries, lavender lemonade and of course, tea! He reviewed why the Olympic Games are important and their history! On Thursday morning, our Members woke a ‘Breakfast of Champions’ where they started the day off with a team breakfast in the Club Room, there was also a special ‘press conference’ for attendees! At 10:30, the Opening Ceremony kicked off in the Auditorium where we met our competitors and welcomed them to this special Olympiad! Throughout the day our Members got their bodies and minds moving with floor hockey, an indoor bobsled race, and Olympic trivia!
